Buying eBay clothes can pay off a car loan!

I am always astonished when I go on clothing shopping trips with family or friends.

mouth drop openThe cost of clothing is crazy expensive!  I have witnessed friends spend over $100 for just three items, if they are lucky.   When they pull out that credit card, yes my mouth drops open and I instantly wish they would adopt me.

Sometimes I wonder if I could ever pay full price for clothing.  Would I, say if I won the lottery go on a shopping spree and reenact the scene from my favorite movie, Pretty Woman?  (For those of you to young to know the movie, you need to rent it today!)  big mistake

But the answer to that question is no, I really don’t think so.  I am a second hand girl at heart, who loves to find a deal.  This is why I love finding a good deal on clothing;

  • I love estimating my savings and applying them to my car loan to pay it off quicker.
  • I love always having something new to wear.
  • I love the feeling when I ruin a top that I don’t feel like $40 just went down the drain!
  • I love it when I am constantly stopped and complimented on my clothing!  As a side note, I have not mastered how to take a compliment!  I should just say thank you but I always have to brag about how much I paid for the outfit!
  • I love that clothing is my least expensive home bill!

So now that I have convinced you to check out second hand here are some places you can find good deals:

  • eBay – online store owners – These small business owners invest monthly store fees to run and manage their store.  They are serious sellers and invest a great deal of time to find you the deals.  Remember, when you shop eBay you save GAS MONEY and you save TIME.  And we all know, time is money!
  • Second hand boutiques – In my area I love Gerri’s Closet in Green, Ohio and Twice is Nice in Hartville, Ohio. These boutiques are super cute and have a lovely, trendy environment.
  • Goodwill – Involves some hunting and an investment of time.

About eBay

I am one of those eBay store owners.  Designer Name Brand Goods and More  I dedicate my Saturdays and Sundays to finding “like new” clothing.  Myself, husband and daughter work through the week to post these items in our eBay store.  Talk about “family time”!  I have been selling on eBay since 2003 and have loved every moment!

I hope this article was a fun and quick read.  Check out second hand and think about applying those savings to a large bill such as a car loan.  If back to school is tough on the budget start looking now for clothing on eBay for those little ones.  They will never know unless you tell them!

Shoes tips and care for a beautiful shoe collection!

I just purchased two pairs of shoes from my store Designer Name Brand Goods! After I modeled my “new to me shoes” for my family, I got down to business.  Shoe Business that involves 3 shoe tips and care that lead to a beautiful shoe collection !

I know….shoe business sounds like such a funny statement.  Shoe business involves 3 steps for me that lead to a beautiful shoe collection!

  1. In & out rule
  2. Longevity
  3. Home

IN & OUT RULE

The in and out rule is a very simple rule that I follow for any new items that enter my closet. Simply, when a new item comes in an old item must come out.  Take a look at the photos below.  The first photo shows the shoes I brought in yesterday and the second photo shows the shoes that went out.

I give myself 3 options for the items that go out.

  • Donate to charity
  • Give to a friend
  • Consign

If you consign make sure you find a store that rotates their stock and offers a great split. For example Gerri’s Closet is a brick and mortar store located in Green, Ohio that offers a 50/50 split and keeps the item for 90 days.  That means Gerri is rotating her stock and giving her loyal customers a reason to come back.  A store that has stale items is just no fun to shop in!

LONGEVITY

I don’t know about you but I am on a shoe budget.  That means I have to take very good care of my shoes to make them last.  When I bring in a new pair of shoes I like to apply a leather conditioner or protective spray for fabric shoes.  The leather condition, Lexol is magical!  It can turn dull leather into a new pair of shoes!  The protective spray by Journeys is just as magical!  This spay reminds me of waxing a car.  Water just beads up on the shoe like a good wax job on a car!

HOME

After I protect my shoes my next step is to secure a good home for my shoes. I rearrange my shoes on shoe racks on the floor of my closet.  Each shoe has a spot.  Shoes are not stacked upon each other.  They have room to breath and do not run the risk of getting scratched or crushed!  If you have the room you can store shoes in clear shoe boxes or recycle old furniture to hold shoes.  Tip…let those shoes air  out a day after wearing before you box them away!

Now that you have 3 shoe tips and care that lead to a beautiful shoe collection the only thing left to do is go to eBay and shop for some shoes!   Or if you are itching for some fresh air go to your local consignment store!

Second Hand Fashion

Yes it is true, I am passionate about second hand fashion.  I wear it, I love it and I have built my business around second hand fashion.  This fashion is unique, affordable and kind to the environment.

No More COOKIE Cutter FASHION

Second hand fashion can set you apart from the cookie cutter apparel world.  The world in which everyone strives to be the same.  The world where “I want one just like that“.  The world where your identity is based on what everyone else is wearing.  Second hand, pre-owned fashion can be current fashion, last years fashion or even vintage fashion.  Most important, fashion purchased on your terms.  When you purchase second hand fashion your objective is finding that unique style that looks great on you!  The stress of trying to fit into the cookie cutter fashion world is no longer an issue.

Financial Happiness

Financially, second hand clothing makes sense.  Clothing is so expensive these days.  Food and home expenses have skyrocketed.  Combine all those costs with raising children and expenses keep piling up.  The cold hard truth is life is expensive but we still need to look good!  Remember the saying, “if you look good you feel good!”  With this in mind second hand fashion comes to the rescue.  Not only can you find name brands at 80% of the retail cost but you can now afford to buy higher end clothing!  Higher end clothing is durable and can be an investment for your wardrobe.  To top it off, ALL of the second hand clothing I purchase is LIKE NEW condition!  Second hand does not mean you have to settle.  I guarantee you, like new can be found!

Try On GREEN

If you are still not convinced to purchase fashion second hand then let’s think green.  Every fashion purchase you make keeps our world a little cleaner.  There is so much waste, so much that goes unwanted, so much discarded in exchange for new.

I Love It & I Wear It

Now as mentioned, I not only have built my business around second hand fashion but I also love it and wear it.  My business is centered on sourcing out great locations or consignees who have great pre-owned, like new second hand clothing.  My eBay feedback in my eBay store, Designer Name Brand Goods and More, supports our dedication to offering great clothing!

I have to mention that in the past 3 years I have not purchased one new clothing item for myself.  An exception to this rule is I purchase my unmentionables brand new. Otherwise, all clothing, shoes, purses, accessories are all purchased for myself, second hand, for the very reasons I mentioned above.

I encourage you to give second hand a try.  Most likely once you try it you will never go back!  You just may find yourself saying “I am passionate about second hand fashion!”
